A couple of months ago, I went to a fashion show featuring Utah bloggers and clothes from The GAP at University Mall. It was fun to see everyone walk the runway and meet local fashion opinion leaders (can you tell I’m a PR major).

Lauren from The Awkward Girls was the only blogger that I recognized from the show. Loved her modeling. Tyra would be proud.

It was great dipping my toes into the fashion scene again and pulling out the ol’ Nikon after so long. It was basically gathering dust! This year has been so INSANE that I haven’t made the time to attend more events or blog. Sorry! Also, you might have noticed that I have changed the look of EWK a few times lately. Not only do I like to change up my wardrobe, but I also like to the same for my blog! The simplicity is working for me right now, but let’s see how long this theme lasts.

The record exchange in downtown Boise is probably one of the awesomest places there.

Also, this guy is wearing an actual cape and top hat. What the what?

Hello guys. It’s been a while since we’ve last chatted. Life is crazy busy (um, what should I expect for my junior year of college) and this blog hasn’t really made it to the top of my priority list in a while. BUT today I went to a fashion event with a bunch of local bloggers, which inspired me to finally post something on Eggs With Ketchup. So here it is! These are pictures from ages ago when I had my ombre. My bestie and I went to Idaho to visit her family. She showed me around downtown Boise, determined to show me how urban and cool her city is. The people, the graffiti, the shopping; it’s actually a great place to hang. Although, I’m still more of a San Fran and New York girl. Hope to see you soon!

Orange Flower Showers

Hello everyone! Yes, I dyed my hair this summer and I am loving my red head era! Tons of people have been surprised at how natural it looks and some couldn’t believe that I was ever a brunette. Silly strangers.

DSC_0363 DSC_0361 DSC_0358Here is cute little picture of me and my girls on a sunny Sunday afternoon. The one in the middle is going on a Mormon mission to Charleston, but the chica on the left is staying with me. Muahaha!

Also, I wish that someone had told me to push my flower crown up. Granted nobody would’ve dared tell me how to wear my crown so I forgive them.
DSC_0359And here’s another staple picture for us. Just poking some fun at the oh-so-not-so-natural-looking mannequins at Forever 21.

Wow, it has almost been a whole summer since I last posted on Eggs WIth Ketchup and a lot has happened in the past couple of months. I got a few internships, flew to DC, Lima and San Fran for a few weeks to hang with the family, continued to work at Forever 21 and tried to squeeze in some fun times with some friends. I’ve been missing my bestie, who is currently in Cali having the time of her life, but I’ll get to see her all the time as my new roomie next year. Woot woot so excited for junior year!
DSC_0003

Obviously, I love flower crowns and this thrifted Hawaiian skirt. This is a photo of another EWK post from last summer. Check out the whole post here!

Stay inspired!

Happy Vee Day

DSC_0008 DSC_0004Some people may HATE valentine’s day, but I don’t actually mind it because of the all commercial aspects of it. I love all of the arts and crafts, the roses all over the place and people’s festive outfits.

Plus, I like chocolate (:

DSC_0006 DSC_0005 DSC_0011

My roomie totally got two dozen roses earlier this week and that are gorgeous! Where are MY roses?

Faux Furry Fashion

Anorak: F21+ / Faux Fur Stole: F21 / Dress: F21+ / Tights: Target / Socks: F21 / Oxfords: F21 / Necklace: Claire’s Icing

DSC_0039

I wore this outfit to go to work this weekend and for some reason the store was effing hot that day (especially at the register). I took off the anorak, but kept the fur on because it makes me feel fabulously high class.

DSC_0037

It’s not how you feel, but how you look, right?

DSC_0045This statement necklace is one of my favorites because it is crazy awesome and light. I have worn it with so many different outfits and has never let me down. Good job, Claire’s.

And the faux fur stole? Hmm I love wearing it!

DSC_0036DSC_0035 DSC_0048I love you, Nicole. Thank you for being my photographer!

My mommy always told me not to play with my food. Oops. BUT this spinach and cheese omelete WITH KETCHUP was delicious.

iCrochet

4-up on 2012-02-20 at 00.14

I have a confession to make…I (gulp)…I have an obsession with crocheting scarves. WHEW that was hard!

But, really, it’s an awesome hobby for long trips and watching television. It takes a little bit of effort and brain power (ugh, thinking? I know) to get started, but once you get the hang of it, your fingers turn into LIGHTNING. POW POW.

My momma first introduced me to crocheting when I was just a little princess. I explicitly remember the nasty green yarn that I used back in the day that I never actually completed anything with. It’s probably still around just to haunt me. *Shudder* It kinda reminds me of what Old Greg would have crocheted with. “I call this one…Old Greg. I call this one…Old Greg.”

*TIP ALERT* Make sure that you correctly count how many stitches you do per line in order to keep it even. If not, you’ll get messy waves instead of nice, pretty edges. Trust me. You want clean edges. No DIY disasters here!

I really need to start learning new patterns because I use the exact same one for everything. Here is the tutorial that I used about a year ago to refresh my memory (and learn a new stitch).

AND here are some shots of the ones that I have made whilst in college.

Is it time to graduate to something else like a blanket or a hat? No.

Don’t forget to join the army of Egg With Ketchup-ites…-ians…-ers. Ugh, I need help. Anyway, like me on le Facebook, join the email list, follow me on Bloglovin’, tweet me on le Twitter, and leave me a comment about your love for Old Greg (or anything else). I’d love to virtually hang with y’all.

Ode To Fashion Week

fashion week

I’M GOING TO FASHION WEEK IN THREE DAYS!

…in my dreams, that is.

Twice every year, New York takes on Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week. Creativity and attitude skyrocket. Yes, even more than from normal New York-ness. Bloggers glue themselves to their cameras and social media outlets. Models don’t eat anything. Designers practically pull their hair out from stress. Anna Wintour sits through her 60432435818632nd fashion show. It’s the mecca of fashion in the US. Where it all starts…

The printed denim you bought from Forever 21?

Runway inspired.

That neon high-lo dress that your bestie got your for your birthday?

Runway inspired.

How about your fave chelsea booties from Shoemint?

Yep, runway inspired.

This all reminds me of one of my favorite scenes from The Devil Wears Prada when Miranda Priestly rips Andy Sachs a new one. Here, enjoy it once more…

You Think This Has Nothing To Do With You

Miranda Priestly: [Miranda and some assistants are deciding between two similar belts for an outfit. Andy sniggers because she thinks they look exactly the same] Something funny?
Andy Sachs: No. No, no. Nothing’s… You know, it’s just that both those belts look exactly the same to me. You know, I’m still learning about all this stuff and, uh…
Miranda Priestly: ‘This… stuff’? Oh. Okay. I see. You think this has nothing to do with you. You go to your closet and you select… I don’t know… that lumpy blue sweater, for instance because you’re trying to tell the world that you take yourself too seriously to care about what you put on your back. But what you don’t know is that that sweater is not just blue, it’s not turquoise. It’s not lapis. It’s actually cerulean. And you’re also blithely unaware of the fact that in 2002, Oscar de la Renta did a collection of cerulean gowns. And then I think it was Yves Saint Laurent… wasn’t it who showed cerulean military jackets? I think we need a jacket here. And then cerulean quickly showed up in the collections of eight different designers. And then it, uh, filtered down through the department stores and then trickled on down into some tragic Casual Corner where you, no doubt, fished it out of some clearance bin. However, that blue represents millions of dollars and countless jobs and it’s sort of comical how you think that you’ve made a choice that exempts you from the fashion industry when, in fact, you’re wearing the sweater that was selected for you by the people in this room from a pile of stuff.

I love this. It’s powerfully awesome. However, what the top fashion-ites say shouldn’t be taken too seriously. They think they may lay down the law but, in my opinion, fashion requires a balance of many things:

Sophistication

Personal style

Experimentation

There might be something that Nina Garcia and thousands of others think is hideous…that you absolutely love and consider to be the perfect representation of YOU. Don’t ever feel like you should give into commercialism because it looks “cool” and lose what separates you from everyone else.

Have fun with fashion!

Back In Red

I’M BACK! It is Feb. 1st and blogging bonanza has officially begun! Every other day you will find a new post on EWK featuring an OOTD, FASHION WEEK AWESOMENESS, campus style and perhaps some style challenges. I am so excited to be back!
DSC_0009Dress: WalMart / Cardi: Kohl’s / Tights: Target / Wedges: Old Navy / Socks: H&M

DSC_0004 DSC_0010Recognize me without my glasses?  Ahh to get lasik…one day.
DSC_0002Wonder why this little get-up is first for the month? Well, it’s red and it’s February…pretty sure you can figure this one out. You’re smart.

DSC_0001I’d say that this has become one of my signature outfits. Dress, tights and wedges. You get to hide your during-the-winter-hairy-legs without simply resorting to jeans and a tee AND still be girly with a dress and wedges during the winter. BAM.

DSC_0011Platform booties: F21 (New, but recently returned shoes. Wasn’t feeling them)

I am definitely an online shopper. Most of the times my shopping cart is filled with hundreds of dollars worth of merch. Every once in a while I’ll finally press the checkout button. It makes me happy…

DSC_0019…but its a problem.

Now that EWK is back in full throttle, have any posts that you have been dying to see? Let me know in the comments below!

Beachy Winter

Anorak: F21+ / Swimsuit: Walmart / Biker Shorts: Walmart (Danskin brand) / Earrings: F21DSC_0330 DSC_0333

I find that this is the most comfortable beach-wear for a curvy girl. I love to throw on my comfy biker shorts and chill anorak for coverage and warmth at the beach. Plus, black is classy and flattering.

I even broke out a little yoga along with my friend towards the end of the day. Yoga on the beach during sunset? Awesomely cheesy and completely relaxing.

Top: F21 / Leggings: Walmart (Danskin brand) / Tank: F21+ / Flip flops: Old Navy / Camera Bag: Amazon.com

A special thanks to Evita, the gorgeous chica next to me, for taking most of these pictures!

I went on a day trip to Paracas, Peru with friends and their families to beach it up! We made various stops: National Penguin Island Reserves, a local restaurant, a small museum, a beach with red sand and a beach with black sand. It was a crazy long day, but well worth it. If you ever get down to Peru, I definitely suggest making your way down the coast to hit the beaches and tourist attractions. It’s one of the best ways to experience the culture and visit the sights…and make an attempt at achieving a tan.
